Why Did the Gujarat Government Reduce the Traffic Fines?

In 2019, the penalties for traffic violations in Gujarat were substantially reduced. Previously, depending on the violation, the penalties could go up to ₹10,000. Now, the fine for breaking traffic rules has gone down to as much as ₹500. 

According to the CM of the state, the fines were reduced on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.  Although some of the fines have been reduced up to 90%, there are some penalties that have stayed the same. Here a look at the latest penalties for traffic violation in Gujarat.

Parivahan Portal

Checking the e-Challan status through the official Parivahan portal is one of the best ways, and here is how you can do it:

  • Step 1: You must visit the official Parivahan website and click 'Online Services'.
  • Step 2: Now, scroll down the navigation menu and click the 'eChallan' option.
  • Step 3: In the menu, you will find the 'Pay Online' option; click on it.
  • Step 4: To check your e-Challan status, you can either enter the vehicle registration number, challan number, or driving licence number.

How to make online payment of challan? (E-Challan Online Payment)

  • If your vehicle receives a challan and you find its details on the website, you also have the option to make an online payment .
  • When you are ready to complete your online transaction , you will find the Pay Now option next to the currency section. Just give it a click and proceed.
  • Once the information is verified, a One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent immediately to your previously registered mobile number .
  • Once you proceed, you will immediately find yourself on the Authorized E-Challan Payment Platform for your particular state. Following this step, simply select the (Next) option to Continue.
  • Once you proceed with the next step, a Payment Confirmation Box will pop-up on your screen, prompting you to select the proceed option. By selecting the Payment Gateway of your choice, you can easily make your payment .

Step 1: Visit the Gujarat Police e-Challan Portal.

Step 2: Next, enter the vehicle registration number for which you want to check the e-Challan status online. Fill in the captcha code on the right side and click 'Submit'.

How to Pay E-Challan Online in Gujarat

Once you check your challan, paying it online is very easy:

  1. Select the Pay Now option

  2. Choose a payment method (UPI, debit card, credit card, net banking)

  3. Complete the payment

  4. Download or save the payment receipt

After payment, the challan status is updated automatically.

Steps to Pay Your Traffic e-challan Offline in Gujarat

Although it’s easier to pay off the e-challan via the online process, if one requires to pay via an offline process, here are the steps they must follow:

  • Offline means that you must visit the official website of the transportation of Gujarat to receive the e-challan copy.
  • You may require to obtain the amount details, e-challan information, vehicle registration information, and more.
  • Download and print the receipt of your e-challan in order to prepare a demand draft, cheque, or pay order in the favour of the Traffic/DCP (HQs).
  • Courier or post the demand draft, pay order, or cheque, and get a printout of the e-challan to the Traffic/DCP (HQs) office.
  • You will then receive a confirmation message from the Traffic Police of Gujarat to ensure the success of the payment transaction. 

After the completion of the payment, your e-challan will then be cleared from the records of the policy successfully. You will then not be held responsible for any kind of outstanding cost against the e-challan that had been issued by the Gujarat Police to you.
